Message from the Head of School

Welcome to Hollickwood Primary School. We are a small, one-form entry primary school located on the border between Muswell Hill and Friern Barnet. We are privileged to serve a wonderfully diverse, vibrant community and this is celebrated and reflected throughout our curriculum. The small nature of our school helps to create a real ‘family feel’ and a wonderful community spirit. It is lovely to see the strong connections children have with all adults and with each other. Indeed, nurturing and safeguarding children’s wellbeing, inclusivity, and working in partnership with parents and carers, is the foundation for all our work at Hollickwood. Every child and family is important to us.

We are guided by our six school values which together make up our ‘Hollickwood Way.’ These are: compassion, curiosity, courage, creativity, commitment and confidence. Children are taught about our ‘Hollickwood Way’ from the moment they enter our school in Nursery or Reception and are encouraged and supported to ‘live out’ our values every day. We want our children to leave Hollickwood happy, confident and committed to using their talents to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

At Hollickwood, we are also committed to supporting children to reach the highest academic standards possible. We want all our children to know that we have high ambitions for them and that they can succeed with the right support. From Nursery to Year 6, we have an unashamed focus on the basics of speaking, reading, writing and maths so that our children have the skills necessary to access the wider curriculum. All pupils will experience a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. They will understand what it means to be an expert in a subject and will find out about a diverse range of individuals who have excelled in the field. We want all children to experience moments of awe and wonder that fire their curiosity and love of learning. Through our curriculum, our children will also ‘learn to learn’ developing the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary for future success.

Our school benefits from extensive grounds including a bog garden, wild garden, bee hives, allotment space, playing field and large playground which allows us to regularly take learning outside the classroom. Our children also access a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, workshops, trips and opportunities. These help children to discover and develop their unique talents, and give them experiences which take them beyond that which they might ordinarily have.

We offer high quality wraparound care that is open to all children from Nursery to Year 6. Breakfast Club begins at 7.30 and after school club finishes at 6pm.

This is an exciting time for Hollickwood. Mr Griffiths and I are proud to be leading a talented and dedicated staff team who are so committed to making Hollickwood an even better school for your children. We would love you and your child to be part of this journey with us. We warmly welcome visits to our school so that you can see our fantastic children and staff in action. A Message from the Executive Headteacher

It is with great pleasure that I write to introduce myself as interim Executive Headteacher of Hollickwood Primary School.

I have been supporting at the school and have gained an insight in to the school, its staff and, most importantly, the fantastic children.

In my new role, I feel it is now important for me to build up a relationship with you, as parents and carers, as the partnership the school builds with yourselves will only benefit your children further. I aim to be based at Hollickwood on Mondays and will endeavour to be a presence in the playground either before or after school – if not both. I am happy to speak with parents, either formally or informally, so please feel free to introduce yourself. I am keen to gather the views of parents and use these to inform our future decisions for the school.

I am fully committed to leading the school forward and ensuring your children secure the best possible outcomes – academically as well as socially and emotionally.

Kind regards,

Mr Griffiths
